Certain fireworks are legal in New Hampshire. What changes became effective in recent years? What happens when you go into a fireworks store? How old do you have to be to purchase fireworks? What cities and towns allow fireworks? Where are fireworks banned? We address all of these questions and provide resources for additional information in this podcast.
As in many areas of the law, regulations pertaining to fireworks continues to evolve. Where firecrackers and bottle rockets were once illegal in New Hampshire, that has changed and those items are now legal. Regulations allow the sale of aerial cones, “helicopters” and many other fireworks in New Hampshire. At the same time federal law prohibits the sale of heavier duty items such as cherry bombs and M-80s.
New Hampshire law allows each city and town to make it’s own regulations. Some towns allow the items, others have outright bans, still others have more complicated regulations allowing them with a permit, or listing items that are and are not listed. A town by town New Hampshire fireworks list is available through the New Hampshire state fire marshal.
Whatever you do please be safe. Use fireworks only with an adult present. Be very careful. Remember that fireworks scare pets. Also be respectful of neighbors and the elderly.
